Military Saddle – structural prototype: original Officer’s Saddle Model 1936
DAW-MAG Cavalry Saddle Model 36/2012 / 07023
The DAW-MAG Cavalry Saddle Model 36/2012 is a modern reconstruction of the historic Polish officer’s saddle, developed in 2012 for the needs of the Representative Squadron of the Polish Army Cavalry.
This model combines faithful reproduction of the pre-war design with modern material technology, ensuring durability and functionality while preserving its historical character.
Historical Inspiration – Model 1936
The direct structural prototype was the Officer’s Saddle Model 1936, regarded as one of the finest achievements of Polish saddlery craftsmanship of the Second Polish Republic period.
Only four original examples have survived to this day; one of them served as the basis for developing the contemporary version.
The saddle tree faithfully replicates the original pre-war wooden construction. The key difference lies in the materials used – the modern tree is made of polyester resins reinforced with durable fiberglass fabrics. This solution significantly increases resistance to mechanical stress and weather conditions.
Cavalry Functionality
In the original design, leather attachment loops on the ends of the panels (used for securing front and rear packs) have been replaced with stainless steel fittings, improving durability and operational safety.
The knee pads are sewn directly onto the flaps, while the panel linings end flush with their edges. This construction allows for comfortable and secure fastening of a sabre – a crucial feature in cavalry use.
Use of the saddle
The Model 36/2012 is used both in historical reenactments – from 17th-century cavalry formations to the period of World War II – and as standard equipment of the lancers of the Representative Squadron of the Polish Army Cavalry.
This saddle represents a unique combination of tradition, master craftsmanship and modern technology, meeting the practical requirements of ceremonial service and reenactment communities while preserving its authentic historical character.
